Mission

Summit Public Schools’ mission is to collectively prepare a diverse community of young people with the skills, knowledge, and habits to attain economic empowerment and success in a chosen concrete next step toward a fulfilled life.

Curriculum & Instruction

Summit K2 prepares students for college through personalized project-based learning, mentorship, and reading/math interventions. Students meet with their mentor, who helps them to build key habits such as time management and managing stress, every morning. Teachers build critical thinking skills via a rigorous UC/CSU-approved curriculum, and specialized support is offered both in class and after school. All high school students also take a college readiness class.

Culture & Safety

Summit K2 offers a robust mentoring program that builds authentic connections and supports students in achieving their academic goals. The school also practices restorative justice to ensure all students are able to meet our behavior expectations and to empower both students and parents to be involved. Summit K2 has a student government, parent education and organization activities, and numerous volunteer opportunities. To build a positive culture, Summit has monthly rallies, spirit weeks, and dances.

Programs & Activities

Summit K2 offers numerous clubs, sports, and after school programming, such as yearbook, gardening, Young Dreamers Network, capoeira, anime, drama, volleyball, basketball, soccer, and cheer. The school communicates regularly with parents and families via weekly newsletters, TeamSnap, robo-calls, and mailers and offers a parent education series and a PTA. After school programming includes Boys & Girls Club, clubs, sports, and academic support.

COVID-19 Safety Information

As the pandemic entered our lives in the Spring of 2020, Summit committed to make decisions in the best interest of our students and the safety of our community. We have taken the same approach in designing our policies and practices for the start of 2022-23 School Year. We are excited to be back together in our buildings, and we know that as we enter this year, we must be ever vigilant. See website for more information.

Enrollment Priorities

The following information will be used to prioritize applicants at Summit K2 during the random selection process. No particular type of applicant is guaranteed admission, and all applicants are prioritized in the following way:

  1. Children of current Summit employees or children of Summit K2 founders
  2. Students who have a sibling currently attending, or who graduated from, Summit K2 and live in the West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD) boundary
  3. Students who qualify for Free or Reduced lunch and live in the WCCUSD boundary
  4. Students who reside in the WCCUSD boundary
  5. Students who have a sibling currently attending, or who graduated from, Summit K2
  6. Students who qualify for Free or Reduced lunch
  7. All other applicants
